Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day -- October 1, 2005
National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day began in 2004 after Senator Richard Burr, with the support of the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), sponsored a resolution in the U.S. Congress, declaring the first Saturday in October as "National Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day" in memory of Jack Doub, a teenaged mountain biker from North Carolina. The members of TORC were excited to honor Jack's memory in bringing this event to the Triangle for the first time. At Lake Crabtree, TORC was able to borrow a few bikes for kids and to provide mechanical support for all participants. TORC sponsored outings at three local mountain biking venues:
- Lake Crabtree County Park in western Wake County
- Little River Regional Park in northern Orange County
- Legend Park in Clayton
