Triangle Off-Road Cyclists

TORC Workday at Harris Lake County Park--March 1, 2008

Our goal for this recent TORC workday was to construct a 85' boardwalk through a low area that often stays wet, to remove an old and somewhat rickety bridge, and to re-route about 100 yards of existing trail. It was a nice day and we had sixteen volunteers and three Park staff. TORC's auguring tool (bought with our current grant from REI) and TORC's Vermeer machine made boring quite painless for the support posts. Stewart and the staff had positioned the wood near the trail earlier so we were able to get folks tamping in the footings and attaching the supports quickly. We put some nice curves and a little tilt in the boardwalk to make it interesting. After the boardwalk was mostly done, a small crew worked with the Park staff to remove the old bridge and carry it out to the road.
