Multi-use Trail “Top of the Hill Trail”
Hike or bike to the top and enjoy spectacular views! On a clear day, you can see the Raleigh downtown skyline. This gravel trail is accessible near the park entrance sign (you can park in gravel parking lot right there and follow signs to trail access).
*Keep off of slopes of the landfill to avoid contact with methane monitoring equipment. Access via “Top of the Hill Trail” ONLY.
Mountain Biking
North Wake contains 2 miles of mountain bike trails built through a grant from North Carolina State Parks. The trails are designated for beginner and intermediate skill levels.
A skills area is also provided for those wishing to build their mountain biking skills and comfort level.
The mountain bike trails are subject to closure during inclement weather, special events and natural recovery.

History
The final Master Plan, the result of an involved community planning and design process, reflects input received throughout the process, and also addresses regulatory constraints with operating a closed MSW. The current park facilities are the first phase in the multiphase Master Plan.
Closed landfills have been converted to alternate uses for many years. In March 2004 the North Wake Landfill Citizens Committee (NWLFCC) was formed as part of the post-closure planning process to solicit opinions of the citizens living in the area as to how the site would ultimately be used after it ceased to function as an active municipal solid waste landfill.
