TORCFest 2023

October 7, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

Come join the fun. There will be group rides, skills activities, Trek bike demos, Black Ox tubeless setup clinics, and more.

RSVP on meetup!

Drop things off at Great Meadow Park and then park your car at Pollard Middle School. Bring chairs or a blanket and hang out in the picnic area. When you get there, look for the TORC table to get checked in. We’ll make sure you’ve signed the waiver and give you a wristband for group rides. We’ll have a small raffle later so you’ll also get a raffle ticket. TORC members get an extra 2 raffle tickets. We’ll announce raffle winners after the skills contests, probably around 3:00 (see full schedule below).

Food for purchase from local favorite Ta Contento.

Crank Arm Beer and La Croix seltzer is free. PayPal donations for beer (and trail) fund are appreciated.

TORC will have shirts and jerseys for sale (cheap!)

Black Ox has a new program that encourages reuse of plastic sealant bottles. Bring your empty (clean) sealant containers (any brand) to TORCFest and they will refill them at a discounted price.

Trek should at least have a size run (small – XL) of Trek Fuel EX 9.8 AXS bikes and a run of Fuel EXe eMTB bikes available to demo. Be sure to bring a helmet and some ID.

The Umstead Coalition will also be there, so bring your questions about RDU, the Quarry, and what’s going on with Umstead generally.

TORC will set up tables (and some shade) for a swap shop, so bring any bikes, parts, or gear you want to sell or give away. And be ready to do some shopping!

Visit the skills area to make your own fun at any time during the day. There will be occasional instruction but we welcome any “experts” who want to show everyone how it’s done.

This is also officially Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day and there will be plenty of kid friendly activities, for kids of all ages.

Group Rides will leave the TORC table area at 11 and 12

  • 11:00 rides will be a course recon ride for the Trail Bandit race. This will be challenging and take a while. You’ll stop to session the challenging sections.
  • 12:00 rides will be Trail Bandit beginner course preview and the kids/novice ride.

Other activities

  • 1:00 visit the Black Ox table for a tubeless conversion demonstration, pro tips, and general maintenance and Q&A.
  • 1:30 skills contests, with a variety of prizes up for grabs. Skills may include a bunny hop challenge, huck to flat (portable ramp), and a slow race.
  • 2:00 cornering skills time trial mini race. Fun for all ages: small kids, medium kids, big kids (adults). Register on Webscorer (free).

Cosumes are encouraged for skills contests but won’t be judged (this year anyway). Bring your cow bell and cheer on the contestants!

We’ll have a bunch of small items (ie no bikes, etc.) to raffle from the stage after the skills challenges are finished. So maybe 3:00.
